What is with those Red States?

I've been hearing it over and over again for the past few days. What is wrong with the people in those red states? How can they be so dumb? They've all been brainwashed by the Evangelical Christians and the far right. Don't they know that the rest of the world wanted Kerry to win?

If you find yourself seriously pondering any of the above statements, I ask you to also consider this: The people in those red states voted their conscience, just like everyone else. They're opinions are just as educated and as those on our "enlightened coastlines." They are not brainwashed any more than those who buy into a liberal agenda.

Living in LA for the past year I've begun to really notice the great divide between conservative and liberal ideologies. Many of the people I've talked with simply can't understand how anyone in their right mind could vote for Bush. They can't comprehend that the worldview of most Americans is different from their own.

Lets call it the "Red State Worldview." It's not a crazy rant put forth by the far right to brainwash the masses. It's the belief system held by most Americans. It's a system that values life and liberty and that upholds the freedom of religion and speech. It champions the American Dream and the noble work ethic that allowed millions of immigrants to find a better life. I don't even think my friends in the great blue state of California can disagree with this.

So where's the problem again?
