Another Busy Weekend

I sometimes don't write a blog after the weekend just because so much happens that I can't bring myself to sit and write it all down...

On Friday I went to dinner with Ryan and Andy. After that I tried to get some writing done, with little success.

Saturday was really because of the Volleyball Challenge. We have a new tradition at St. Finbar where the Youth group and the Young Adult group play each in various sporting events. A few months ago the high school students challenged us to a basketball game and beat us by two points. This time we challenged them to a volleyball tournament, and they beat us again by two points. It was a really fun afternoon, though, and I think everyone had a great time.

I'll try to post some pictures here if possible.

Hobbit Birthday Parties

It's been a while since I've been to a hobbit birthday party. I can't say I've been to very many, but if the one I went to on Sunday is any indication then I probably won't go to many more.

It's all about Frodo and Bilbo Baggins, you see. Apparently there are people out there who keep track of important things like fictional characters' birthdays, and they enjoy throwing parties for them whenever appropriate. I don't know how I let my roommate Ryan talk me into going, but lets just say I felt more than a little out of place. I was one of the few not dressed like a hobbit or a wizard. To be fair, there were a few others who did not dress in costume. At the very least, though, they were wearing a Lord of the Rings (TM) T-shirt or carried the One Ring (TM) on a chain around their necks.

Don't get me wrong. The food was good, and it was quite an experience to see such hobbit-like celebrations in real life. I think it's something everyone should go to once, just to do it. Check it off the list...

GO IRISH

It's amazing how much a big W can do to start the weekend off right. Actually, the weekend started off well before the ND vs. Michigan game, but it sure helped...

On Friday night I met some of the current and former ACE teachers in LA for a little BBQ. It was a good chance to meet some of the ACE 11's (Are they already up to 11?) and visit some of the others I don't get to see very often. It was also a good prelude to the game on Saturday.

The game itself was awesome, of course. It's always nice when your team has an offense to compliment the defense, and I dare say that for a few minutes there we looked like the Notre Dame that hasn't been around for a decade or so. Hopefully we can keep that up and stop with the turnovers.

Steve even called me a couple of times from the stadium. I think I saw him on NBC when the students were rushing the field but I'm not sure...

Dad, again, I'm sorry about the loss. I have to say though that with the way things have been going ND needed the win a lot more than Michigan did. U of M only dropped to 17 in the polls while ND still sits around 31 or so.

Why are long weekends so short?

Doesn't it sometimes feel like three-day weekends are shorter than regular ones? Thank goodness for today, because I can finally catch up on things I need to do (like sleep, barbequing, and ultimate Frisbee).

It was fun hanging out with some friends and watching Rudy on Friday. Oh glory days of ND football, where have you gone? We better practice hard for the Michigan game next week.

I'm off to take a nap before Frisbee...

Rudy Night

I went to see Napoleon Dynamite with Ryan and Theresa last night. It was surprisingly funny--not as good as Rocketman, mind you, but pretty good nonetheless. It's almost painful. You should see it sometime.

Hmm. What else?

This Friday we're having we're having a little shindig to kick off football season. There's an unwritten rule that you have to watch Rudy at least once before the first home game, so we figured this would be a good time to do that. I haven't actually watched it in a couple of years. Come to think of it, I'm sure that's why our season was so bad last year. No Rudy party. Well we're fixing that this week, so we can all look forward to a successful season.
