How could I do this to myself?

If you know me at all, you know that I love Notre Dame football. It's on NBC every Saturday during college football season...you may have heard of it...

Enter me with my busy schedule and no Franklin Planner System (TM). Let the trouble begin.

Ian and I were originally hoping to start our screenwriting workshop up in May or June, which would have given us plenty of time to finish up before football season. We found a weekly date and time that seemed to work for us, and we committed to go with it. Then things got pushed back a few months. Do you see where I'm going with this? Our class meets at 11:00 Pacific on Saturdays, and we'll be going for at least another three months. Notre Dame football games begin between 1 and 2 EST on just about every Saturday in September and October. Accounting or the time difference, this basically means that I will be walking into the classroom every Saturday just as ND is running onto the field. Ouch.

I've already talked to Ian about this problem, and hopefully we'll be able to rework the schedule. If not, I'll just have to put a TV in the classroom. That's all there is to it.

Writing Workshop, Part 2

My friend Ian and I are starting our screenplay-writing workshop back up this Saturday. It's really all Ian's class--all I did was find a location and recruit a few people.

This is a second-round workshop for us. We did one session a few months ago, but we only had about five people and I never quite finished the screenplay I was working on. It's still in the works, but I 'm going to put that one on the back burner to pursue a new idea. In any case, with twelve people involved it should feel more like a class this time so hopefully I'll be better at meeting deadlines.

Another Busy Week

It looks like this one is shaping up to be another somewhat hectic week. There are lots of things going on at work to keep me busy, but luckily I didn't need to work overtime today. I don't mind it at all, of course, but its always nice to get home on time.

This will be a short post because I'm on my way to the St. Finbar Youth Group night. I've been working with them for the past couple of months, which has been great. They've got a really solid group of kids that come every Monday for Bible study and even more that come to their other events. Now if we could just get as many things going with our Finbar Young Adult Group...

Elephants and Dancing Queens

Sometimes when I'm trying to sleep I hear a loud crash coming from upstairs. That crash is usually followed by a thud, then another thud, and another. It sometimes continues for hours. What earthly power could make such a racket? I recently found out that it is none other than my neighbor's seven-year-old child. I think they gave him a pogo stick for his birthday. Either that or he really loves that "carpet is lava" game where you have to jump around the house because the floor will burn you.

Oh, and his parents are a riot as well. They have a habit of playing their favorite song, "Dancing Queen" over and over at all hours of the morning. Crazy. It's quiet right now though, so I shouldn't complain.

Updates

Very soon all of the links on holden-corbett.com will be active. I think I've finally fixed most of the problems with the main page. Now it's just a mater of getting the content posted.

More later...

Happy Birthday Dad!

Lets all wish a happy birthday to my dad. We'll spare him the fun of publishing his age online. You're only as old as you feel right?

My gift to him this year is that I'm revamping holden-corbett.com to be a family webpage. I had hoped to update it today but ran into some unexpected difficulties. I guess that's what happens when you try to learn html as you go along. In any case, I should have the new page posted later this week. Keep checking back!

4th of July

Let your patriotism shine through. Remember that we live a great county, despite what you may see on TV or at the movies. This is the country where you can pursue your dream regardless of your background. This is the nation where it is proven time and again that one person can make a difference. This is the place where you can speak freely, worship freely, and pursue freely that which will bring you true happiness. Don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.
